Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a unique and rare Brush AP “All Purpose” crystal microphone from the mid 1940’s complete with a period American cast iron desk stand from Emco Radio Products Inc. The AP model was a bit of an oddity with it’s very unique and large radiator front grill design that looked like nothing else being sold before or after it’s existence. This is one of the hardest Brush mics to find and one of the nicer I have ever personally come across but I’ve only ever come across 4 of these models. Again, super rare mic. This was a very expensive and sophisticated crystal mic for that time and was about as far as the microphone industry would advance with this technology as crystal elements in microphones became dated and far less used by the end of the 1940’s. Pic # 2 & 3 shows an old Brush advertisement showing this very model of mic and it’s technical data and details. The nickname for this mic was “All Purpose” as it was intended for a variety of situations. This mic has been tested and gone over. It should be noted that the mic is missing the internal components. There is no wired and no crystal element. It should be used for display, prop or repair purposes only. This would also make an incredible LED light as well for a cool ambience in any room. This AP mic has the original black painted stripes in the front as well but the impedance switch on the bottom of the front grill is gone which is always missing on these mics it seems. This mic is quite large. This mic is just slightly smaller than the classic Shure 55 “Fatboy” and the largest crystal Brush mic ever made. The mic and adapter are appx 8 inches tall X 3 1/2 inches wide. The mic with stand is appx 13 inches tall X 6 inches wide. The all metal structure of this mic is in very good overall condition with lite pitting, scratches and scuff marks but it’s free of any dents or fractures. The mesh inner screen looks great and the joint mechanism works perfectly with plenty of adjustable tension. The lower adapter will screw onto any stand though one is already provided. While this microphone is nonworking it would make a nice accent piece on the coffee table or just about anywhere it’s displayed. It comes with a 15 inch cable that’s soft pliable. Free of damage and chunky vintage Cannon male XLR end connector. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IN PICTURE IS PART OF THIS SALE… The American made desk stand is a period 1940’s era Emco Radio Products Inc and the model is the BS-6. This rarely seen model has a heavy and very thick cast iron base with a 4 inch chrome riser. This stand is built like a tank and virtually indestructible. This stand will be around 200 years from now…long after all of us are gone. A pleasant thought really. 😉 This smaller but heavy stand makes for an excellent platform for all small, medium and larger screw on microphones due to it low profile and weight. You’ll be hard pressed to tip any microphone over that sits atop this BS-6 stand. It’s in very nice physical condition as well as seen in the pics provided. The painted cast iron base has extremely lite signs of wear. Very lite rust stains on the bottom which is always a bonus. The original 4 inch riser has chrome plated finish but shows a few scratches. The stand comes with 3 newer felt pads on the bottom that work great. Please let the detailed pics be your guide. If you demand rare and unique then this combo will fit the bill. Very few people actually own one of these models and they will certainly draw attention anywhere it’s displayed. You could retrofit this mic with a newer or used dynamic element with a little handy work. there is plenty of room inside the housing to work with. As with all my vintage microphones for sale… I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not…I have a no hassle return policy.
